Coming to Wellsprings For A Stay -

Some Frequently Asked Questions

Q:   What if I have an emergency need?
A:    You can call Wellsprings at any time for help.  You do not need to know the answer; if you have a question, please give us a call.  We will work with you to find an answer to the immediate need, and arrange follow-up steps as necessary.

Q:    What are the requirements for admission?
A:     Each call is answered individually. We will ask that you be working with a Christian Science practitioner who is listed in The Christian Science Journal while you are staying with us, and that you are relying solely on Christian Science for treatment.
The most important thing, though, is just to make the call.  We have many resources available, and we trust the Biblical promise that Paul relates in II Corinthians 8:13-14, For I mean not that other men be eased, and ye burdened: But by an equality, that now at this time your abundance may be a supply for their want, that their abundance also may be a supply for your want: that there may be equality.

Q:     What type of care do we offer?
A:      Christian Science nurses meet each individual right where they are, from the lightest of care needs to those that require our full attention.

Q:     Is Medicare coverage available?
A:      We are a Medicare provider, included in the Medicare regulations as a Religious Non-Medical Healthcare Institution (RNHCI).  Medicare eligibility is determined by our Christian Science nursing department after admission on a case by case basis and is regularly reviewed.  We will be happy to discuss the parameters of this governmental insurance with you, and we have a helpful Resource Guide to send you upon your request.

Q:      How can I pay for my care?
A:       We work with each individual to pay their Christian Science nursing bill.  There are many options: Medicare, private insurance,  private pay and payment plans.  Our Executive Director arranges confidential payment arrangements that work within each family’s budget.  Our current charges range from $85/day to $690/day and may also include additional costs such as supplies not covered by insurance, beauty salon charges, etc.

Q:       How long can I stay?
A:        Individuals choose to come to Wellsprings because they desire the care we provide.  Each person can stay as long as they want the support and care of the Christian Science nurses and as long as the care needs can be properly met by our staff.  We do not make contractual arrangement for stays of any length—short or extended.  Billing is compiled for each day’s care and services.

Q:      Can I bring my pet?
A:       We do have pets here at Wellsprings; we presently have a lovely black and white Tuxedo kitty named Hope who stays with us and greets everyone.
We have had both dogs and cats come along when their owners needed Christian Science nursing care . Our Christian Science nursing staff is here to meet the need. Each need is unique, so give us a call and we can talk about your pet.

Q:       What should I bring?
A:        Think about what you would bring if you were going on a week-long trip and then pack what you would need for that journey—washable clothes (personal laundry is done daily), your favorite toiletries, a robe, slippers, a sweater or light coat for cool Florida evenings and air conditioned spaces.
Pack along your Christian Science study books and any current Christian Science periodicals you are reading, although we have subscriptions to these.  We have a fully stocked library, all the Bound volumes of Christian Science Sentinels and Journals, a wealth of Christian Science literature and music on CD, and everything that is offered by the Christian Science Publishing Society.
Our on-site beauty salon is open on Mondays.

Q:      Will I have a private room and bath?
A:       Yes, all our rooms are private rooms and a private bathroom with a walk-in shower.

Frequently Asked Questions
of the Visiting Christian Science Nurse Service (VCSNS)

Q:      What do you do?
A:       The VCSNS supports the individual’s desire to totally rely on Christian Science for healing by meeting the care needs in the home. This could be actual physical care needs, such as bandaging, assistance with bathing, or training family members how to meet a need.
Another way in which we support the individual’s desire could be as a resource in connecting with local services that provide regular meals, support with household chores, transportation, or financial assistance.
When the care needs are such that more than 2-3 hours are required to meet the need, the Visiting Christian Science nurse can assist the individual in finding a private duty Christian Science nurse, or accommodation at a Christian Science care facility.

Q:      What if I am on medication?
A:       We will still visit! It is the Christian thing to do. Each situation is individual and depending on the particulars we could share local resource information, or periodically make a visit as a church friend.

Q:       What are the charges?
A:        Christian Science nursing care is billed at $55/hour plus supply costs, if needed.  There is an additional charge to cover travel costs.

Q:       Do I need to be working with a Christian Science practitioner?
A:        No, not for the initial visit.  This is an individual choice, of course.

Q:       Will my insurance cover your visit?
A:        That depends upon your policy.  Unfortunately there are very few policies that cover the costs of Christian Science nursing care in the home. Talk with your agent and if they say home care is covered, ask for a copy of the insurance policy language or Christian Science rider. At this time Medicare does not cover care in the home.

Q:       Do you provide transportation to Wellsprings?
A:        Depending on the care needs, we may offer transport or we will assist in locating proper transportation.

Q:        I am living out of state; can you check on my dad/mom on a regular basis?
A:        While we never want to replace the role of a family member, we can go by and visit on a regular basis.

Q:        What do you do if you check on mom/dad and discover their care needs have changed dramatically?
A:        We will be in touch with you immediately and work together to meet their needs.
